Lasting Effects of Physical Education on Students Essay

National Institutes of Health did a study and found a person could gain as much as three years on their life expectancy if they meet all the HHS guidelines (Moore). Almost all adolescents will benefit if they know this knowledge. Requiring a physical education class every year for high school graduation will benefit students throughout their lives. A major importance for having a physical education class is it keeps adolescents active. According to Cameron Jacobs, adolescents are dramatically more likely to be active outside of school if they take a physical education class. Research done by the Physical Activity Council shows children who do not have a physical education class are twice as likely to be sedentary outside of school†¦show more content†¦A physical education class teaches how to and encourages exercise on a daily basis. In return, this will give them confidence they need to exercise while it increases their life expectancy. Frequency of a physical education class is significant. Kathy Speregen has said it is a known fact that physical activity improves overall health. â€Å"Most importantly required daily physical education classes, promotes the idea of healthy living for children which can be bring about long term changes in activity levels into adulthood as well as improve academic achievement† (Speregen). National Association for Sport and Physical Education recommends adolescents have 60 minutes of physical activity on most days of the week. During a school week, the physical education class fulfills the recommend physical activity for the week. Physical education classes help the students stay physical active and give the recommended amount of exercise. Outcomes of the physical education class help a student’s schooling. â€Å"Physically fit students are less likely to miss school, partake in risky behaviors, get pregnant, or attempt suicide, which are all associated with better outcomes in school† (Taras). â€Å"Several studies have stated that providing increased time for physical activity can lead to better concentration, reduced disruptive behaviors and higher test scores in reading, math and writing† (Satcher).
